Alex Ong Visits at Antioch

We have seen photos of Alex doing his 6th assist at Antioch.   Here is Alex came by to visit before the show started in the morning of the show.   Alex's main breed is the English Angora, so there has been quite a bit of communication between Alex and me though this is the first time that we met.  Alex has grooming and boarding facilities in several countries in Asia and put on shows regularly.  His judging license will definitely be very helpful in promoting rabbit exhibition in Asia.   He further designed a very pretty slicker brush for Angoras, Alex is very kind to give one each to Carol, Casey and me.    Here is his facebook page:   https://www.facebook.com/alex.ong.1048

At the end of the day, I was very lucky to have won double Best In Show out of three open shows. The prize from CRCS is a steel drinking bottle.   I gifted my show C Best In Show prize to Alex.   Randy Shumaker takes the photo for us.

Here is one of the pictures Randy took.

It's the end of the day, most people have left and the showroom is getting empty.  It's also getting dark outside.   We all had a great day.   Wish Alex all the success in his rabbit business and adventures for many years to come.

Judge Stacy Eaton says,

"I was in Hamburg, PA judge the LVRCBA show this past weekend and had the honor of judging the Youth show A, BIS. Alex Stepnoski took BIS with her English Angora and Ashley Shaw took RIS with her French Angora, both very nice rabbits!

Alex also took Youth show B, BIS with her English Angora!
Just thought I would share the picture with you!"

Thank you Stacy and congratulations to Alex and Ashley.

Alex, Queen of PA State Convention

Alex getting Aries ready for show.

Alex in her "Queen" attire and Best In Show chair.

Alex in her "Queen" attire and next to her Best In Show prize.

Pennsylvania State Convention is known for its size and fun. It is not unusual to have 4000 to 6000 rabbits in the show. There are also specialty shows and youth royalty contests held in conjunction with the state convention.

Alex had a wonderful time and achieved everything that she prepared for in this convention. She won the royalty contest, was crowned "Queen" of the PA State Convention. Then her English Angora lilac tort senior doe won the youth Best In Show in the specialty show judged by our Randy.

Alex has been breeding and showing English Angora for several years. Some of her rabbits have California connection. In 2005, she bought a lilac tort doe from Charlie and this doe won the colored senior doe class in youth in the 2005 convention. Alex's Angora Acres Aries, the youth BIS winner, is a daughter of Charlie's doe. Aries bears a striking resemblance to her mother.

Randy has commented to us how well this "young lady" has done in the PA convention. Her rabbits were beautiful and that she was poised. From these pictures, we can see why Randy was very impressed with her.

The English Angora colored senior doe class is always a lot of fun.

There are two full coated English Angora colored senior does competing for the top prize.

Is this one better?

Or this one is better?

Alex made his decision and judge Lauralee agrees.  Betty joins in the photo op.

Show B Satin Angora Judging at Antioch

We are going back to the CRCS shows at Antioch.   Here are photos and reports of the show B Satin Angora judging.

The judge for Angoras in show B is Lauralee Erbe in the red apron in the background.   The gentleman who is at the judge table is Alex Ong from Malaysia who has passed the ARBA judge's written and oral exams and now doing "Assist".  He flew from Malaysia to be trained and to assist for 8 shows in order to get his judge's license.   On Saturday, 2/14/26, he is doing his 6th assist, only 2 more to go to be eligible as an ARBA judge.  Judge Lauralee uses a observe and let loose way of assist, she is in the back observing than standing at the judging table.

While judge Lauralee is observing, our photos only show Alex working on the Satin Angora.

Beautiful black Satin Angora.

The colored senior doe is the BOV colored Satin Angora.

Alex steps back then takes a overview of the white senior doe.

The BOB Satin Angora is the white senior doe.

Casey is the breeder of both does, well, they are littermate sisters!   Alex is very impressed with it.  Here is the montage of his experience judging on that day:

Friends at Indy

Convention is a place to renew old friendship and make new ones.

In the top photo, Charlie is making a new friend with Alex, a 14-year-old youth exhibitor. Alex is from Maryland who has been showing English Angora for a couple of years. In the picture, Alex is holding a colored senior doe that she bought from Charlie. The doe won the first place in the convention youth judging. Alex is happy and Charlie is happy.

In the second photo, Betty is with Vicki from MN. Vicki and Betty have been friends for over 10 years, they see each other in the convention each year. Convention is definitely the place for old friendship renewal. Vicki's daughter Kelly won youth Best In Show in the 1998 convention with a daughter from the first rabbit Kelly bought from Betty.

In the third photo, Betty is with Raykun. Raykun is not a rabbit breeder, she went to graduate school with Betty. They met in Indiana at University of Notre Dame over 30 years ago, definitely old friends. Raykun and husband flew in from California to visit, more than anyone could expect of a dear friend. Betty is thrilled to see her there.

Family Time At Convention

The Indy convention is a memorable one for the Stepnoski family of PA; daddy Ray, Mommy Diana with two sisters Alex and Rehanna are all in the convention. This is Alex's first convention to compete in the open and her Giant Angora won Best Opposite Sex. Little sister Rehanna was crowned Cavy Queen of 2011 and her Texel cavy won BOB. Diana usually takes the girls to the shows by herself because Ray is out of town on business quite often but he was able to make this convention. They had a wonderful time at Indy.

Alex is having a pep talk with her English Angora colored senior doe just before judging. The pretty doe took 5th place out of 26 in the class, a very good showing.

Our Cavy Queen Rehanna with her proud daddy Ray.

Mommy Diana is also very proud of Rehanna too.

GCCFA's First ARBA Sanctioned Triple Shows in China

Judge Kathi Groves was at the CRCS Petaluma show that we are currently reporting.  A few days after the show she hopped on a flight to China to judge the first ARBA sanctioned rabbit show sponsored by GCCFA.   We thank Kathi for the report and thank Alex Ong for letting us use his photos on his facebook.

In order to have ARBA sanctioned shows, the judges have to be licensed by ARBA, it's much harder for other countries to host ARBA sanctioned shows.    During the weekend of September 6-7, 2025, GCCFA sponsored their first triple ARBA sanctioned shows held at Chengdu in the Sichuan Province of China.

The person who made it possible is Alex Ong who is an ARBA licensed registrar.    He is also credited for forming a GCCFA which stands for "The Global Companion Animal Cultural Fanciers Association" that includes but not limited to rabbits.

Kathi Groves judges ARBA show A.

Masako Miyazaki judges ARBA show B.

Arie Wardhani judges ARBA show C.

Kathi examines a young Giant Angora, interpreter behind her.

Masako judges the two young Giant Angoras, one buck and one doe.  The doe wins over the buck.

Arie examines a Netherland Dwarf.

Arie judges the Netherland Dwarf with interpreter and table help.
The breeds entered in these shows are Netherland Dwarf, Holland Lop, Mini Rex and two young Giant Angoras.

The shows have beautiful prizes.

This is the show poster.  There are two other shows that are not ARBA sanctioned.

There are also fun classes such as the rabbit Costume Contest that was held on Sunday.

Show B French Angora Judging at Antioch

Alex works on the French Angora. Carol helps at the table.   If it were for the fact that Carol is also showing, Alex would have really benefited from Carol's expertise.  Carol is one of the best judges for wool breeds.

The colored senior buck being examined.

Carolyn Silvas listens to the comments of her French Angora colored junior buck.

It's the first time out for the little guy.  Very cute indeed.
