Black Based Fawn or "Sooty" Fawn

Yesterday we posted photos of "clean" fawn English Angora.  Today we'll have a "sooty" fawn.  Here is a photo of a black based fawn English Angora, the counter part of the black tort.   Her genetic make up is A-B-C-D-ee.      Though having black/blue tips and bands are not considered as desirable, the type and the wool are still way more important than the color on the show table.  This doe's name is Chu's Zeeva, who is one of the winningest English Angora with 48 legs, 41 BOB, 23 BIS and 7 RIS.

This is a black based or "sooty" fawn French Angora.  Her name is Uptown Girl who also has won a good number of shows.

If you look at the ears and the mask of both photos, you can clearly see the black tips.  These black tips give away the genetic make up of: A-B-C-D-ee.

How to Breed for a Clean Fawn

This is a fawn English Angora without any black or gray tips.  If we are writing up a pedigree, it's just stated as "Fawn".  However, if more genetic information is desired, it should be stated as a "Chocolate Fawn".

This is a French Angora with a very clean face and wool, no black or gray tips.  Another chocolate fawn.

It is listed in the SOP that it is not as desirable to have smut ticking ear lacing or faint grayish band in wool.   The above two fawn do not have any of these, sometimes it is called it a "clean fawn".   How do we get a fawn that is "clean", actually it is very simple, select the parents that are either chocolate (bb) or chocolate carriers (Bb).    The "clean" fawn is an agouti patterned chocolate tort!  The genetic make up is A-bbC-D-ee.

Beautiful but Dangerous

It has rain so much in California recently, it's wet everywhere.  This is a total opposite of the regular weather.  Laurie sent photos of the wild mushrooms coming out in her backyard.  They are beautiful but more than likely toxic.  The brighter the color, the more dangerous they are.

Sleeping Babies

Aren’t these cute?   Three sleeping French Angora babies.

Cutest of the three has to be this one with its little tummy showing.   If you wonder what color it is, it's the chocolate agouti.

Colorful New Year, Color Yarns

It has been raining off and on during the holidays, more on than off.   I spent most time inside spinning and dyeing.   How do you like these four skeins of colorful English Angora yarns?

The light green is dyed with food color dye.   Does it look good enough to eat?

The sunshine yellow is also dyed with food color dye.

The blue is dyed with Jacquard acid dye.  Sky Blue dye #621.  If I wish to have lighter color, I'd put in a very small amount of the dye powder.  This skein is a bit more intensive than I planned for but still very pretty.

The pink skein is also dyed with Jacquard acid dye.  It's Pink dye number 608.

Debbie Wins with a 4th Coat English Angora

Isn't this a gorgeous English Angora?  Debbie showed Heart Felt Stryker on New Year's Eve specialty show on Saturday December 31, 2022, and won BOB under judge Louis Potter.    Would you believe this is Stryker's 4th grow back coat?

In the all breed show the same day, Stryker wins the 2nd Reserve In Show under judge Adam Shuller.   Both Adam and Louis are very familiar with all the Angora breeds.

Who says that English Angora only has one show coat?
