Beautiful California Morning

Fall is coming, the grass is turning green, no longer the ugly brown patches that are common under the hot sun in the summer.

Just before the sunrise, the cloud shows the reflection of the golden ray.

It's going to be a beautiful day.

Sisters Growing Wonders

Two tort sisters were featured a month ago on September 11.

In four weeks, they are growing nicely.   To prepare for show debut, they went to the RHDV2 vaccination clinic on October 3.

This is sis with ear tattoo BC7EL.   EL is the designation as one of Ellamae's baby.

Another photo of BC7EL.

This is sis BC8EL, littermate sister.   She is a bit smaller also a bit more compact.

Being compact is a plus for an English Angora.

Ten years ago, a country song titled "I Hope You Dance" came out, describing a mother's hopes for her daughter.  I paraphrased the lyrics and wrote my hopes for my bunnies:

I hope you grow
I hope you show

You are entering the Angora world of wonder
Growing your coat in splendor
Chewing not on your shoulder
Keeping clean of your under
Excluding a wool blunder

I hope you grow
I hope you show

Harvesting Winter Melon

The winter melons are getting big.  Are they ready for harvest?

When the winter melon has a whitish cast on the outer skin, this is the sign that the melon is mature.

More ready to harvest winter melons.

Two really big ones.

This melon is over 20 pounds!

When cut up, this is how it looks inside.  The pulp and the seeds are to be cut out.  If the seeds are spread to dry, they are good for planting.

The skin is very tough, so it should be cut out.  These are ready to be used for cooking.

Winter melon is commonly used in Chinese and Indian cooking.  It is usually used for soap in Chinese cooking.   Here is a meatball and winter melon soup.

If anyone is interested in getting seeds from Betty for future planting, please e-mail englishangora88@yahoo.com     If you are going to a show in our local area, I'll bring them.   If you are out of area, please supply postage and I'll be happy to mail them to you.

Growing Winter Melon

Veggie garden during the spring.    The very left row are broccoli , the second and third rows are a mix of cucumbers and winter melons.

The cucumber and winter melon are in the same family, their leaves look alike.   The very right are the zucchini.

A closeup of the cucumber and winter melon plants.

The winter melon plants are growing well and growing big.

Hiding inside the leaves, there is a green round gourd, that's the winter melon.

Though this winter melon is good sized but it is not yet ready.  What's the sign that a winter melon is ready?  Stay tuned.

Remember Me?

Hi, remember me?

I am Dasher.

Mama Betty took me to get a shot, it hurts a little but mama said it's good for me.

See me on the table?  I am the first one on the right.

Mama said I would be protected from a very bad thing called RHDV2.

Mama said it would be safe for me to go to a show.  I'd like to go to a show, I heard so much about the fun things in the show, my ears perk up.

English Angora Enjoying Exercise Time

It's wonderful to have a clear autumn weather with 70-degree temperature.  The sky is blue and the grass is green even with very little watering.    The English Angora are having an exercise in three pens.

English Angora are not too active even in the exercise pens.

In the big pen are five girls, 4 tort and one white.   The white is Ellamae, and the tort girls are Elsia, Annisha, Frieda and Aquinnah.   In the back are two boys Aabel and Luca.

A close up of Luca in his individual pen.

Aabel in his pen.

Frieda and Aquinnah are sharing some secrets chats.

Ellamae, Elsia and Annisha are close friends.

Now Elsia and Ellamae are together while Annisha joins her sister Aquinnah and friend Frida.

From a different angle.

A little bit of afternoon sunshine is very enjoyable.
