Basic Color Genetics: Black

The photos show the black gene: B

This is a black English Angora young junior doe.  The color is quite dark and face black.  The color genes are aaB-C-D-E-.   It's a non-agouti pattern, with black gene, full color, dense color and the color extended to the entire body.  

The same doe that is an older junior around 5 months old.  The lengthening of the wool makes the black color more of a dark gray than black.   The face remains black.

Same doe that is now a senior, the wool color is lightened to gray.  Even though the wool color is lighter, it is still considered as a "dense" color with the D gene, evidenced by the face color that is still black. 

 

Basic Color Genetics: Chocolate

It has been a while that we discussed color genetics.   Let's do a review of the basic chocolate gene, b.

This is a chocolate English Angora junior doe.   The color is quite "brown" when it's young.   The color genes are aabbC-D-E-      It's a non-agouti pattern, with chocolate genes, full colored, it's a dense color and the color is extended to the entire body.

The same English Angora chocolate doe, now senior.   With the sunlight and the length of the wool, the color is lighter, but it is not a dilute.   

 

Creative Holiday Ornaments

Though Christmas 2022 has come and gone, Carolyn's tree is still shining.
