Randy Guest Blogs About Houston Livestock Show- Part I

I judged the Houston livestock show and rodeo last month. It was my 3rd opportunity to do show. It is similar to our cow palace show and rodeo- about 100 times bigger and better- mainly because there is still a focus on agriculture there- unlike California. It is held at the Reliant Center which has I believe 400,000 sq ft under one roof. I would guess it has attendance similar to one of our larger fairs here in California.

Here is one of many banners hanging in the main foyer stressing agriculture and why it is important for society.

Another one outside the Reliant center and adjacent buildings before it opens.

Here is the nifty keepsake badge we get for judging.

Holly's Pandora Wins All Breed Best In Show and Reserve In Show

Holly and hubby Glenn with judge Jean Safford; Pandora was awarded Best In Show.

Holly with judge Cathy Szychulda; Pandora was awarded Reserve In Show.

Cathy examines Pandora very carefully. Cathy is a very thorough judge.

Pandora in the judging coop, all squished.

When Emmy was winning Best In Show and Reserve In Show in California, her cousin Pandora was doing the same in Canada. Holly's chocolate tort doe Pandora did extremely well for her.

Judge Jean Safford from WA awarded all breed Best In Show to Pandora; our CA judge Cathy Szychulda picked Pandora as Reserve In Show.

Holly had a great weekend in shows. Congratulations, A job well done.

Randy's New Toy

Randy got a new toy for his superintendent's job: a bullhorn.

He walks around and calls out the breeds and exhibitors to the judging table.

Some of us said, "Randy, we could hear you, why do you need this thing?" He said, "It's for Allen!"

So they had this clowning around moment.

Isn't rabbit show fun?

Spencer, Christina's Favorite

In the CRCS show B, top three rabbits selected by Judge Keelyn were English Angora, Dutch and American Fuzzy Lop with English Angora being the Best In Show, Dutch being the Reserve In Show and the American Fuzzy Lop next to the Reserve In Show.

Christina is the owner and breeder of the American Fuzzy Lop. The most remarkable thing is that this handsome broken black buck, Spencer, is almost five years old. This Best of Breed leg is his 30th leg. It shows how well Christina takes care of her rabbits.

Great job, Christina.

In show A, Emmy took Reserve In Show in the all breed show.

In show B, Emmy took Best In Show in the all breed show.

In the NCAG specialty show, Emmy also took specialty Best In Show.

It was a good day for Betty and her girl Chu's Emmy.
