A Bit of History: Angora SOP 1950-1955

We have posted historical Angora SOP in the following three posts from 1934 to 1950.  Today we'll take a look at the SOP from 1950 to 1955.

The SOP on English Angora started at the bottom of this page, ignore the paragraphs before "English Angoras" appear.
The colors accepted are white, black, blue and fawn.  "Whites to be disqualified if marketed with an other color." appears in this SOP.  Because of this sentence, for many years the broken variety was not only disqualified but also could not be presented for consideration.

English Angora are to be compact, such concept has been included very early in the SOP.  Weight wise, senior buck range was 5-1/2 to 7-1/2 pounds, senior does 5-1/2 to 8 pounds.  Both the lower and upper limit are 1/2 pound higher than that of the current standard.  The most interesting part is that the wool is assigned 65 points, more than the 57 points in the current standard.

French Angora standard starts midway of this page.  The first sentence is that the French Angora are to be eliminated if they resemble the English.   Just a reminder, the Angora used to be called "Angora Woolers", no distinction between English and French. (see 1934-1939 SOP link above).
Starting in 1939, the SOP used "Angora Woolers (English Type)" and "Angora Woolers (French Type)" as a distinction. (see 1939-1944 SOP link above).

French Angora standard ends at 1/3 of the top page.  The minimum senior weight was 7 pounds without a maximum weight.

Deers Look for Water

The drought in CA has made life so difficult for wildlife.  The deer family is looking for water.

Mama deer and two fawns are happy to have found water.

Remember When: Angora National 1990

Chu's Star Jasmine was the Best In Show in the 1990 Angora National at Ventura CA.

The judge for the 1990 Angora National was Cindy Wickizer, the ARBA president at that time.
Cindy took office in 1989, served 4 2-year terms: 1989-1994, 1997-1998.

Hand painted plates and a trophy.

I still have the painted plates in my storage but not sure where the trophy is.   It's possibly blended in with the other trophies or it had been donated.

There are many other prizes on the table.  I distinctively remember the etched glass plates in the middle.

I received two big ones and 4 small ones.  These are not in storage, we regularly use them for food.    The etched graphic is the original NARBC logo.   Before 1988, there were only two breeds of Angoras: English Angora and French Angora thus the logo shows two rabbits only.  Though the show was held in 1990, the logo change was yet to come.

Another view of the set of etched glasses.   On the opposite of the plates, the small ones say "arcoroc 49 France" and the big ones say "arcoroc 30 France".

The sponsoring club of the Angora National 1990 was California Angora Rabbit Society (CARS) with the support of our club NCAG.  NCAG provided financial help but CARS people did the work.   The plates and trophies were offered by the clubs.  Then there are some donated prizes from wonderful people.   One of these unusual items was the double-sided woven Angora hanging, another piece is the silver turquoise banger and then there is this etched wall hanging.   It is a large sized hanging, 22" across.  I don't know who was the artist, it's beautiful job.   There are three breeds of Angora etched, they look like the English Angora, Giant Angora and French Angora.

In addition to the Angora National, there are also all breed shows the following day.   Star Jasmine won BOB or BIS in these other shows as well.   In this photo is judge Fred Cremer whose judge's number is 21.   The current numbers for the new judges are over 1,000.   You get the idea how senior Fred Cremer was.  Fred also served as district 2 director for many years.

Remember When: Very Unusual Prizes

A little over a week ago, I posted:
Northern California Angora Guild: Beautiful Angora Woven Art (ncag.blogspot.com)
Here is me holding this piece of Angora art in 1990.

It's me again holding the other side of this woven art.  The photos were taken in June 1990 at Ventura, CA.   What went on in June 1990 at Ventura?

It's a rabbit show, of course!   This is the winner rabbit Chu's Star Jasmine wearing her "crown".

Star Jasmine is no longer with us but her "crown" is still in my collection.   It's a banger bracelet made of solid silver with a real turquoise.   The double-sided Angora woven art is unusual already, this piece of jewelry as a prize in a rabbit show was a first and so far the last.   What kind of show was it?  stay tuned.

Bumper Crop of Cucumbers

The cucumber vines are growing a lot of leaves.  Are there any cucumbers?

Cucumbers are hidden under the leaves.

Got to look for the cucumbers.

And more hanging....

This is the harvest on one day, and daily harvest yields about the same amount!
Without a "bumper crop" of shows during the summer, a bumper crop of veggies is the second best.

Gifta in her summer hairdo enjoying a piece of cucumber.

Annisha is enjoying her piece.

Luca likes all kinds of veggies, including cucumbers.

Simone likes her piece of cucumbers.

Merida is a little bit hesitant, she is worried that cucumber may stain her beautiful coat.

With so many cucumbers, there are just more than we can consume.  We try some home version pickles for future consumption.

Close Up Shots of Augustina

Augustina is known for her long flowey 13 inches show wool, not much attention has been placed on her pretty face.

Tort is one of the best color for facial close up photo shoots, the contrast of black face with a beige coat is very attractive.

A close up shot with the wind blowing, pretty.
