Tomatoes Love the Heat

The temperature has been brutally hot for over a week.

Heat and fire danger, human do not like it neither do the buns.

Tomato plants love the heat.

After waiting and waiting for months, the tomatoes are finally ripens to the right color and condition.

Some are still green but they are getting ready to ripen.

More hiding near the ground.

This State is On Fire

With fire in many places, the air quality is very bad.

With the smoke, the rising sun is bright orange, looks more like a sunset than sunrise.

Casey sent info about her evacuation yesterday, she is still out of her house with her dogs and rabbits.  She lives in Solano County.   With so many fires started by lightning, it's not a surprise that the fire is getting close to my town as well.   I live in Santa Clara County where the orange color indicates the fire and mandatory evacuation zone. 

This is a close up of the fire map.   The orange is the mandatory evacuation zone, the yellow is the evacuation warning zone.  If you see Morgan Hill in the middle of this map, my home is exactly at the left edge of the yellow warning zone. 

It's in the news that only residents of my town can enter the three freeway exits to Morgan Hill. 
We are keeping our eyes open, have an important bag packed and mostly importantly carriers are ready for the rabbits in case an evacuation is ordered.

Casey's Evacuation from Wild Fire

Casey has gorgeous rabbits as shown in yesterday's post.   She and family live on a 3-acre mountain property in Vacaville that is under fire danger during the lightning and heat wave as shown in this map.

At 1:30 am she received order to evacuate.  Fire was getting close as shown on the news stations.

They have three dogs and rabbits, ....

... loaded in vehicles and went to in-laws place, but ...

... not all could fit into the vehicles, so they went back to get the rest.   At the road block, Casey and hubby waited and waited and hoped to be allowed back to rescue the rest of the rabbits.   Deputy sheriff Angela Pangelinan came to the rescue to escort them back to take the rest of the rabbits out.   Casey said: "Our Hero Angela Pangelinan!"




  

Obsidian Sparkle Wins Satin Angora Rabbit of the Year 2019-2020

There are four breed of Angoras, the 3 first place "Rabbit of the Year" winners are in the No. California, Betty has the winners of the English Angora and French Angora,  and Casey has the winner of the Satin Angora.    Casey's Satin Angora not only won the first, but also the third and fourth places in the competition.   

Casey's Obsidian Sparkle CJ69A is the Satin Angora "Rabbit of the Year".    She is also the BOB at the 2019 ARBA convention at Reno.

Casey with her two big winners:  Eva CJ593 the white doe on the left is the 3rd place Rabbit of the Year with Obsidian Sparkle on the right.   Eva has the honor of the only Satin Angora to have won an all breed Best In Show in No. CA.

Pointed White buck Bohannon CJ692 is not too shabby to be the 4th place winner.  He earned his points mostly from winning the BOSB.

Indigo Girl Wins French Angora Rabbit of the Year 2019-2020

Following her mother Gifta's step, Indigo Girl BCG2G  wins the French Angora "Rabbit of the Year" award 2019-2020.   Her mom won the title in 2018-2019, see

Actually mama Gifta is still in the top five of the award, she is number 4 this year after being in shows for only 2 months in January and February winning BOBs and advanced to BIS and RIS before the lockdown.    Number 3 on the list is Lipton who earned his points winning most of the BOSB plus a few BOB in different shows.

Indigo Girl wins BOB, BIS, RIS regularly, but only the BOB points are included in the "Rabbit of the Year" calculation.

Indigo Girl's mom Gifta is the winner of the 2018-2019 French Angora Rabbit of the Year award but she still got it.   Winning BIS and RIS with her third coat and stays in the top five of the Rabbit of the Year competition.  This picture of Gifta was taken in January 2020 when her daughter Indigo Girl was taking a maternity leave from shows.

When judge Ari visited from Indonesia, she admired Lipton’s gorgeous chestnut ring pattern. 

Fawndella Wins English Angora Rabbit of the Year 2019-2020

Since the 2018-2019 sweepstakes year, the National Angora Rabbit Breeders Club has a "Rabbit of the Year" competition for each of the 4 breeds.   The points are calculated based on BOB and BOSB only.   BOB receives 1 point for the number of the rabbits in the breed, BOSB receives 1/2 point.   For example, there are 20 English Angora shown in the breed, the BOB rabbit receives 20 points and the BOSB rabbit receives 10 points.     The sweepstakes year goes from August 1 to July 31 of the following year.   The NARBC sweepstakes chair Robin Olson is super efficient, the final results are already posted in the NARBC newsletter.  

Chu's Fawndella BC7FD is the winner of English Angora "Rabbit of the Year".   She follows the step of Chu's Annisha who won the English Angora "Rabbit of the Year" in the 2018-2019 sweepstakes year.   See:

Gorgeous Simone
