Show D French Angora Judging at San Jose

The French Angoras are loaded in the judging coops, Carol and Carolyn watching.

Judge Courtney is commenting on the second place French Angora colored senior buck.

Boys will be boys, the 2nd place is not too thrilled to be the second place, wanting to chase down the one about to win the class.

Judge Courtney is checking the underside of a colored junior buck.

After checking, judge Courtney comments on the colored junior buck.  It's very promising but not mature enough to win over the senior buck.

This is the 3rd place colored senior doe.

The second place colored senior doe.

Last but not least, this is the first place colored senior doe as well as the French Angora BOB.

Dr. Le Visits at the San Jose Show

Dr. Le on the right has been my family doctor at Kaiser for close to 30 years.  She would encourage me to exercise more and I tried to explain how physical it is to raise and show rabbits.   When San Jose show was coming up, I invited Dr. Le to come visit.  To my pleasant surprise, she came with her daughter Tiffany on Sunday.

Tiffany is drawn to my English Angora right away, having lots of fun holding Arlo.

Tiffany is a master's program student at San Jose State University, I probably "met" Tiffany before she was born, recalling Dr. Le carrying her some 27 years ago.

Interaction between mom and daughter.

Dr. Le taking photo of Tiffany.

Since Aurelia had won a Best In Show on Saturday, Dr. Le took a picture of me holding Aurelia and her Best In Show rosette while Tiffany is holding Aurelia's brother Arlo.

Happy Birthday Bao Bao and Bei Bei

It's a Birthday Celebration!

Brothers Bao Bao and Bei Bei are 3 years old.

Bao Bao fills my entire lap!

This was Bao Bao and Bei Bei when they arrived in 2022.  I wish I could have both of them on my lap right now, but my lap is just not big enough.   In this photo, I am holding a total of 2 pounds of weight: Bao Bao 16.5 oz and Bei Bei 15.5 oz.

If you see my face strained, it's because I am holding 32 pounds of two wiggly fat and strong cats: Bao Bao 17 pounds and Bei Bei 15 pounds.  What a difference 3 years made.

A Note from Pattee

Pattee Singer has been focused on her cavies lately so we don't see her in rabbit shows much.  I received a message from her a few days ago informing me that French Angora Russell had passed away:

"I want to tell you about Russell.
Everyone has their favorites.  Russell was mine.  He loved for me to pet him; he always entertained me - he made me laugh.  His food bowl was never empty, but if his food was getting low, he told me about it.  He was a joy to groom and made everything so easy for me.  I have so many memories of him and I will never forget him.

Thank you so much, Betty, for sharing this wonderful rabbit with me.

I hope that you will share the photos on the blog.

Sincerely, Pattee Singer"

Russell was born during the COVID in January 2020.  There wasn't a lot of shows but this was one of them.   Russell was a winner under judge Jordan Miner.

Pattee has done a great job caring for Russell, he was 5-1/4 years old.   As far as I know, his littermates had passed before him.

Cirque du Soleil Performances, Second Half

Here are some photos of the second half of the Cique du Soleil performances.

In a big cube, there are two wires where the performers doing all kinds of movements.

The red poles are just poles, there is nothing to grab on to but the performers are able to show beautiful acrobatic movement with grace.

Two performers on the same pole to show their agility.

The two comedians increases the height of their box act.

Teeter Totter jumping act.

All the music and singing are performed live during the acrobatic acts.   After a 3+ hours that includes an intermission, the show comes to an end.  The cast came out to take a bow.

It was a spectactular performance, definitely worth your time to buy tickets to the show.   Photos do not do the show justice.   I took videos but this blog is not set up to upload videos.  You can get an idea from their official trailer on youtube:   ECHO Official Trailer | Cirque du Soleil - YouTube

According to the San Jose Mercury report, the equipment for the show took 80 semi trailers, it took nearly a week to erect the 65-foot high Big Top and all the supporting structures in the fairgrounds.   In this production, there are 53 performers with 30 family members, plus hundreds of workers and additional ones hired locally.   There are 5 executive chefs in charge of kitchen staff to prepare 200-300 meals a day.  If interested, here is the link to this article:

I highly recommend you to make it to the live show.   The show will be in San Jose until May 11.  Tickets are in the $80 range, quite reasonable.
