Casey’s Birthday Gift to Herself

We celebrated Casey's birthday at the Dixon January shows in the past.  This is the most recent one:
Northern California Angora Guild: Fun Time at Dixon (ncag.blogspot.com)
This year all shows in January are cancelled, so we don't get the chance to celebrate Casey's birthday.

This year Casey reached a milestone age wise.   She decided to buy herself a birthday gift in addition to the ones from her family.     This is the gift she chose for herself: The Hare On the Moon.

She enjoyed the book a lot, she wishes to share the introduction with us.
If you click the photo, it'll enlarge enough for you to read.

Joanna May is the author.

Carol's Fiber Room

Carol decided it's a good time to organize her fiber room.   She put a shelf in the open closet and use it for all her yarn collection.

She bought the wool bags from Ikea and put in different yarn and appropriate knitting needles for each type of yarn.

Here is a close up of the chunky weight yarn with the huge needles at the top.

She has a good collection of craft books and heirloom quilts.   We'll look at her quilts in another post.
At corner is one of her spinning wheels.

Carol's two dogs Boo and Dallas love her fiber room, so comfy.   Another spinning wheel at the corner.  She has 4 or 5 wheels.

Boo and Dallas are happy everywhere, fiber room or sofa.

The Last Persimmon of the Season

This the last persimmon of the 2020 crop.   It's sitting on the counter, very lonely looking.

In the late summer early fall, the persimmon trees are green and beautiful, needs support sticks so that the branches would not break.

Hanging on the branches are the green fruits.

As summer turned to fall, fall turned to winter, the green fruits red, ready to eat.
These are the Fuyu.

Hachiya was also in abundant supply.

After the harvest in December and pruning in January, these are the persimmon trees.  The one in the front is the Hachiya and the one on the left and several farther back are the Fuyu.    It'll be 8 to 9 months from now to see the pretty red fruits again.   Goodbye delicious persimmons, looking forward to the 2021 crop.

Carolyn's New Fiber Project

Carolyn found this needle felt kit on line.   With 4 English Angora princesses at home, she would like to modify the kit into English Angora and utilize the wool harvested from Prinessces Fawnessa, Flower Girl, Tiffany and Imari.    We look forward to seeing her finished project.

Carol's Barn Patrol Officers

Carol's daughter Kendall is a high school teacher loved by her students.  Last summer her students presented her with a litter of kittens found near a trash bin.   Carol took in two, they were about 6-8 weeks old.

Carol name this one Smokey.

Brother is Bandit.

Their first home base was the spare bathroom in Carol's house.   Brothers are inseparable.

After a few weeks, they were moved to the rabbit barn to start training to be barn patrol officers.

They are learning to get used to the rabbits.

Now about 10 months old, they are old enough to take their job as Barn Patrol Officers.    Smokey on the left is now 11 pounds and Bandit 9 pounds.

Bandit is the friendly one, helping Carol to groom her Fuzzy Lop.

Smokey is the king of the barn, sits on the top of the rabbit stacker looking down on his charge.

Bandit likes to get attention.

Smokey takes his job seriously, thinks everyone should worship him as he’s the chief patrol officer of the barn.

Preparing for Early Spring Veggie Garden

Our veggie garden is now totally empty.   The summer/fall crop were all harvested and consumed or in the freezer.   In early January, Albert bought sets of plastic pots with covers to start seedlings.

One of our shower is turned into a greenhouse.   Albert installed LED lights that are on 16 hours a day.

In less than 2 weeks, the seedlings turned into small plants.

There are cabbage, broccoli, spinach, bok choy, ...  Human will be happy to have them on the dinner table, rabbits will be even happier to get the fresh treats.
