ARBA Convention at Portland Revisited - People Watching

One of the interesting things at the conventions is to see friends and watching other breeders.   Here are Don from Michigan and Joan from New York, both are presenters of new breed or variety.

Katie and Brad, Best In Show winners at the convention.  In 2002 convention their solid Havana won Best In Show.   A few years later, they successfully presented broken Havana.  This year their broken Havana won the Best In Show.    They are definitely "legend" breeders.

Gabe and Sandra are both originally from CA, now Gabe lives in PA and Sandra in GA.

Polish Princess Kathi and daughter are wearing make up for Halloween.

Gabe and Eric are partners for life.

Thomas is enjoying Betty's English Angora.

Young judge Autumn and seasoned French Angora breeder Charlotte, Charlotte's French Angora went on to win Group on the Best In Show table.

Two new judges: Autumn of OR and Kellyjo of CO, both are also fiber artists.

The ARBA bigwigs from left to right are: chairman of the board of directors Rusty, executive director Eric, former president Mike, current president Josh.

Angora breeders-extraordinaire:  Thomas and Cody in Satin Angora and Eric in French Angora.

Katya from Russia Visits ARBA Convention at Portland

Katya is a freelance photographer and film student from Russia, she visits the ARBA convention and interview the top breeders.

Katya took quite a few photos of Betty and Clementina, at the end, she has a picture taken with her photo subjects.

Emily and Alyssa have been watching Katya doing interview and photo shoot with Betty, their mothers asked whether the two young ladies could have a picture taken with Betty and Clementina.   Betty says,
"Sure, and you two can put your hands on my English Angora then you'll have proof that you touched Betty's rabbits!"

ARBA Convention at Portland Revisited - Voodoo Doughnuts

We see people carrying pink boxes of doughnuts walking around in the showroom everyday.   On Tuesday, November 3, 2015, the Northwest Angora Rabbit Club bought three big boxes as treat to the Angora exhibitors.

Some of the doughnuts are traditional looking, some are quite exotic.

This is the first time I've ever seen a purple doughnut.

The are too big to consume the whole doughnut, the club members find a knife to cut them into quarter pieces for people to share and to taste different flavors.

Voodoo Doughnuts company is a local flavor, originated in Portland, now has five stores in the US, two in Portland, one in Eugene, OR, one in Denver, CO and one in Austin, Texas plus one in Asia at Taipei, Taiwan.   For more information about Voodoo Doughnuts, go to their website at:

http://voodoodoughnut.com/

There are some fun facts, there are even wedding packages for those who wish to hold their wedding ceremony at the Voodoo Doughnut locations.   The wedding package price goes from $250 to $6,660.

ARBA Convention at Portland Revisited: Rabbit Jumping Contest

On Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at the ARBA convention, the official rabbit jumping contest is being held.

Some of the rabbits are very excited to jump the hurdles but some are stubbornly staying still.

A broken Polish is a good jumper.

A Himalayan decides to stay put.

The Himalayan poses in the form of being "snakey", the right pose for the show table but the wrong action for the jumping contest.

A medium size black rabbit, not sure what breed it is, is a good jumper.  Judge Susie from MN scores the jumps.

A young Californian is very enthused in the contest.

The Californian completed the course.

Holland Lops are one of the best breeds for the rabbit jumping contest, this sable point Holland Lop is no exception.

Checker Giants are known to be harder to handle but this Checker Giant is doing a good job in the jumping contest.

Betty has a great time watching the rabbit jumping and even gets a photo taken with the judge!
