Betty Has a Pretty Good Day at King City

The wool corner at King City.   With so many wool rabbits, we bound to have fun.

Here are Betty's boys and girls going for prizes.

It was always wonderful to run into old friends from 30 years ago, this is Rosemary Fickas, Paul's mom.

Got a lot of yummy candies when Aabel won the Reserve In Show in A.

Aabel won a 2nd Reserve In Show in B.   Judge Rusty posted that he and I met before he was a judge.  That's a long time ago as he got his judge's license in 1991 when he was just a kid.

Carol's Great Day at King City

With the holiday season, COVID and RHD viruses, we are not going to have shows for quite a while.  We'll be lucky if we could go back to shows in February, keeping our fingers crossed.    We still have some photos and fun things at King City yet to be reported.  Let's have a look back.

Carol has quite a few rabbits with her at King City.  She has her main breed American Fuzzy Lops, then the 2nd breed French Angoras, plus some Mini Satin that are going to a new home.

Carol with her beloved American Fuzzy Lop.

The biggest item in the raffle is the $150 gift certificate from Randall's Ranch.    We all want it.  Carol is the winner, and Betty is envious!

Then the best of all, Carol's American Fuzzy Lop won the Best In Show.

What a great day for Carol.

Same Color? Yes

We are familiar with this colored English Angora, it's a Tort.   In the new SOP that will take effect on January 1, 2021, it'll be called Black Tort in the Angora Color Guide.

These are both Tort, on the left is American Fuzzy Lop and right is the same English Angora in the first photo.    See how much darker is the American Fuzzy Lop?   The American Fuzzy Lop is a wool breed just like the English Angora but has more guard hairs.  Guard hairs have more intense color.

Next to the American Fuzzy Lop is a Mini Satin.  Guess what color it is?   If you guess Tort, you are right.   The Mini Satin has sheen, the reflection of the sheen makes the color even more intense.  Comparing to the Mini Satin, the American Fuzzy Lop seems to be light in color.

We have all three breeds side by side, all three are Tort, or Black Tort to be more specific.  The Mini Satin in the middle has the most intense color, and the American Fuzzy Lop is next in line while the English Angora looks pale in comparison.    The English Angora is the breed that has the most underwool in all wool breeds, so the color is the least intense among any breed of rabbits.

We have done a similar comparison between the Chocolate Tort English Angora and Chocolate Tort Mini Satin in the past, see:

Linnea Loves London

Linnea got chestnut French Angora buck London from Betty.  She really loves London's personality, very gentle, very loving, ...

London was raised by English Angora foster moms Fawnalisa and Annisha, grew up with English Angora brothers Aabel and Luca.    He has the French Angora easy grooming wool and English Angora gentle personality.

London growing up with Linnea.

Linnea took a close up shot of London.

Linnea likes to show London and he had won a youth Best In Show at a fair, Linnea is not sure she wants to breed.   Even though French Angora wool is easy to care for but it's still work.  Linnea is a very smart girl who knows school work is still the most important thing for her.

Betty Inducted to NARBC Hall of Fame

In November, I was informed that the National Angora Rabbit Breeders Club has inducted me to the Hall of Fame.   Due to the cancellation of the ARBA national convention, the induction was done during the membership meeting via Zoom.   I was totally surprised and humbled.   I received this crystal award in the mail.

In the December 2020 current issue of the NARBC newsletter, this information became official.   I am extremely humbled and honored.   This is the highest honor that can be achieved.   I thank the national club for the recognition and kindness.

This is the first page of the nomination profile.  If you wish to read the content in larger prints, just click it.     I was instructed to have a photo of me with the crystal and one of my English Angora.   This lower photo thus is very current, it's me and Aabel.

This is the second page of my nomination profile.  The upper left photo is me with Vicki and Kelly Johnston.   Kelly won the 1998 ARBA Convention youth Best In Show with a daughter bred out of my stock.    The middle photo is from the Domestic Rabbits in 1992 when my doe Chu's Sweet Sixteen won the ARBA Convention open Best In Show.   This is the first wool rabbit ever to have won an open Best In Show at the ARBA Convention, broke the glass ceiling of the Best In Show being mostly meat breeds.    The lower left photo is my Group winner Chu's Vera in the 2001 ARBA National Convention.      I got two more Group wins in 2003 with a tort buck Chu's Ashton and in 2013 with a lilac tort doe Chu's McKenzie.

I thank NARBC for awarding me this prestigious honor and thank Lynn and Nichole Wilson, Casey Jones and Debbie McCormick for the nomination.

The nut bread is so good, so yummy, ...
