Basic Color Genetics: Black Fawn and Chocolate Fawn

We are discussing Fawn today.
In the SOP, there is no distinction between black fawn and chocolate fawn, there is just "Fawn".  Fawn and it's diluted version Cream are classified as "Wide Band Group".   It will be easier if the classification falls under Agouti because Fawn and Cream are both Agouti pattern A-, the bands are not as easy to see because of the lighter color of the wool due to the non-extension gene ee.   It is probably the cause of being classified as "wide band".

This is a black fawn.   A-B-C-D-ee.   It is the agouti version of black tort, aaB-C-D-ee.   It is also the non-extension version of chestnut agouti A-B-C-D-E-.
The color genes of A-B-C-D-ee can be translated as:  agouti pattern, black family, full color, non-dilute/dense color, non-extension color.    Color of the eyes: Brown.

How do you tell it's a black fawn?  Look at the face and ears.   There should be black tips. Similar to black tort, the color of the wool is usually a bit subtle.

This is a chocolate fawn, A-bbC-D-ee.   It's the agouti version of chocolate tort aabbC-D-ee.   It's also the non-extension version of chocolate agouti A-bbC-D-E-.
The color genese of A-bb-C-D-ee can be translated as:  agouti pattern, brown/chocolate family, full color, non-dilute/dense color, non-extension color.   Color of the eyes: brown.

These are two chocolate fawn, left a French Angora and right a young English Angora.   Both shows very clean face, no black tips on the ears or the mask.    The color of the wool is more flashy than the black fawn; analogous to the black tort vs chocolate tort.

Canadian Geese Family Outing

Late spring and early summer is the time for the new babies to be born or hatched.   The Canadian goose family is showing off their baby gosling.

Baby gosling is a bit tired, mommy and daddy geese stop and wait.

Another family with two goslings, they are a bit older.

Mommy and babies are taking a rest, daddy goose stands guard.

Nice shades for an afternoon nap.

A close up of the mama goose and her two goslings.

A New Artist is Born - Alice's Loquat Painting

My friend Alice sent me a photo of her painting of our loquat tree.   I am super surprised and super excited.  Alice and I have been best friends since we were teenagers, that's many lives ago.  I never knew she could paint!

This is the photo that I sent to Alice showing our loquat getting ready for picking.   Don't you think she did a great job?

Here is another of Alice's painting.  Beautiful!

Alice and I a few years ago.

Alice visited with Casey and Charlie at Carol's summer party.
