Bao Bao and Bei Bei were born in the feral colony at the Merced County Fairgrounds but now live a strictly indoor life.

Even though they enjoy their good life indoors, they still remember their previous outdoor feral life.

Mama Betty, can we go out?

You are white, you'll get dirty and sunburn outside.   Just enjoy your indoor life.

 

Pincushion Proteas from Carol’s Garden

Carol sends photos of these beatiful flowers in her garden.  She says, 

"They are Pincushion Proteas. This year they are really blooming". 

 

Betty's Homegrown Fava Beans

Albert planed these beautiful green plants in the late fall and they are thriving during the rainy winter and early spring.

These are fava bean plants.  They are annual.

In May, the pods with beans inside are maturing.

The pods are not for consumption, they are picked at prime to get the beans out.

Slice the pods with a knife and get the beans out.

These are the matured beans.

A bit of oil, a bit of salt and a bit of water, here is a delicious veggie dish.

 

Alice Visits Betty

Recently Alice came from Taiwan to visit.  Betty got a chance to reconnect.

Betty and Alice are best friends since high school.  We met when we were teenagers, now we are real oldies.

Our friendship has extended for over 60 years, still the besties even though we live thousands of miles apart.

Here is Alice and her sister Susan.   Susan's husband James was a professor at San Jose State University.  Betty and James were colleagues in different departments, James in Finance and Betty in Economics.   Yes, these are different fields; Finance is in the College of Business while Economics is in the College of Social Science.

Susan lives in Los Gatos, only some 30 miles from Betty in Morgan Hill.   When Alice and I visited, Susan treated us with a delicious lunch and took us to see a neighbor's beautiful rose garden.   Enjoy the photos of the glorious roses.

Cats love boxes, Bao Bao is no exception. 

A bucket is very hard to resist.

Bao Bao thinks he looks really good in a blue bucket.

A basket is a good hiding place. 

Or just for lounging. 

The pink dishpan is a very good napping spot.

Do you like my pink nose?  Matches the dishpan.

 

It’s Beach Time

Weather is so nice, it’s a long weekend, summer starts today and the beach towel is out, shell we go to the beach?

We have hopped into the basket, carry us to the beach!
