Sandy Tsukiyama's Gorgeous Cowls

Sandy is well-known for her cooking skills, she has a regular column in the Domestic Rabbits.  This mushroom recipe is on page 28 of the current issue Nov/Dec 2021 Domestic Rabbits.

Not as well-known but equally skilled is Sandy's knitting.    Here is Sandy with a purple/pink cowl, yarn handspun and dyed by Betty.    Sandy knits many of the cowls as gifts to friends and relatives for Christmas.   It's Christmas eve today, many are enjoying Sandy's generosity right now.   We are sharing photos of some of Sandy's creations.

Another of Sandy and Betty collaboration, cowl knitted and designed by Sandy and yarn by Betty.

An orange cowl.

A watermelon color cowl.

A white cowl.

A purple/pink/fawn cowl.

A pumpkin cowl.

A cowl knitted during the plane trip from Hawaii to Louisville this year.

And the newest cowl made after Louisville.

Best Time with Friends at Shows

Showing rabbits is fun, but the best part is meeting and socializing with friends.
From left to right are Casey, Betty, Carol and Carolyn.  We just love seeing each other at shows.    Casey, Betty and Carol show various wool breeds but Carolyn does not show, she loves her Angoras as much or even more than those who show.

Betty Grooming Auston

Auston is a gorgeous English Angora chocolate tort buck.

He does well in shows.  Look at his coat!

Auston looks big but he only weighs 6 pounds.

Betty grooms Auston carefully to keep his show coat durable.

Not sure whether Auston likes to be groomed but he accepts it graciously.

Dasher Looking for Attention

Dasher was the only bunny at birth, like a human only child, he is kinda spoiled.  He is used to getting a lot of attention, see:
Northern California Angora Guild: Dasher is Dashingly Handsome (ncag.blogspot.com)

At shows, others are content to be in their carriers, but Dasher would try to push his carrier lid to be able to stick his head out.

Dasher wants to say, "Hi, I am here!"

Scratch my head please.....

Dasher on the grooming table getting the beauty treatment.

Dasher is ready for the show!  Dasher has been doing quite well; he just turned senior in early December, so far he has won BOB twice and BOSB once, now eligible to be a Grand Champion.

Melanie, 1994 ARBA Convention French Angora BOB Winner

This is a photo of a very old issue of the NARBC newsletter Angora News from 1994.   The cover shows the BOB winners of the four breeds at the ARBA convention at Tulsa, Oklahoma.   You may recognize the English Angora person, yes, that's Betty.  The rabbit's name is Chu's Cynthia, a lilac tort senior doe.   Why is this old photo being featured here?   I received this photo from Melanie Korn, now Melanie Spano, the owner of the BOB French Angora on the upper right.   The rabbit was Melanie's rabbit but the person is not Melanie.  Standing in for Melanie is her friend Eric Whitney as she was not able to go to Tulsa herself but her friend brought the rabbit for her and the rabbit won BOB.
(If you wish to see this photo more clearly, double click and you'll see a full sized version).

The great aspect of the Angora is that one does not have to show or breed to enjoy them.   Melanie no longer has rabbits but she still enjoys spinning Angora wool.    The white wool was purchased from me and the colored yarn in the hat is the skein she made that won the Best In Show in the W/S/G contest at the 1994 convention. Melanie treasured that BIS skein, saved it for all these years and now combined with the yarn spun from my English Angora.   I feel very honored.

Here is another hat with the white wool from me and the black wool was saved from Melanie's previous rabbits.   Beautiful work.    It's wonderful to hear from friends from the past.   Once you have owned an Angora, it's hard to take the Angora out of you.  The Angora are so beautiful, lovable and versatile.

A Beautiful Christmas Card

It’s a sign that that the holiday season is here.  Just received this most beautiful Christmas card designed and made by Carolyn.    Carolyn has the most magic touch to care for her beloved pets.   Upper left corner are littermate sisters Princess Flower Girl and Princess Fawnessa.  Upper right corner are Princess Quinzanne and Princess Imari.     Kittycat on the lower left is Fallyn who appeared at Carolyn's door in the summer as a hungry insecure homeless kitten; now she is a gorgeous confident young lady who just received her title as "Royal Highness Princess Kitty Fallyn"!   The lower right are the Kimekomi bunny dolls that Carolyn handmade.

Happy Holidays to all.
