Meat Pen Judging on Saturday

The official judging day is Sunday October 9.   This year there is a new rule:  The meat pen rabbits and other commercial rabbits are judged on the evening of Saturday October 8.

Randy in the left background spearheaded this change and Jonathan in green apron facilitated the change and raised extra funds to be prize money.

The judge for the meat pen and commercial rabbit is Bryant from OH.   Bryant has won over 100 Best In Show with his New Zealand within 3 years,  his expertise is undeniable.

Jonathan raised $2500 as prize money and he also works at the table to be a helper to judge Bryant.

One of the criteria for meat pen is that the three young rabbits in the group should have about the same weight.

The judging is done very close to the Angora booth as seen in the background.  We watch the judging with interest.

The commercial aspect of this judging is important, ARBA president Josh and his better half Sue both come by to watch.   Judge Randy C. from Alaska chats with Josh, one of things that he reminisces was about working with judge Randy S. at the Monterey Fair relating to an "encounter" with the English Angora in 2006.

Betty says Hi to Bryant before his judging starts, and got an photo op.

ARBA Convention 2016 - Day One

2016 ARBA convention was held at the San Diego County Fairgrounds at Del Mar, CA during October 8 to October 12, 2016.   It's the biggest show of the year with exhibitors, visitors and rabbits flying and driving from all over the country and from the world.

Due to traveling, we missed one day of blog post.   Now that the convention is over and I've returned home, I'll post photos and give descriptions.   It's a little late but better late than never.

At the entrance of the main building, there is a display of trophies and items that represent the surf culture in the area.
Betty of course cannot resist to be included in a picture.

Carol W. likes to be seen with the display too.

Showroom is for showing rabbits and rabbit related items.  With rabbits, a dumpster is a necessity to be used to collect rabbit wastes.

It's a place where all like minded people who can talk rabbits all week long.

Most rabbits are in their coops but there are still some yet to arrive.

The ARBA booth is well stocked with logo wears.

Kevin, Autumn and Avalon have a photo taken with Betty.   Kevin is the owner of KW cages, the designer of the Show Pro program, the supporter of the convention; he is the major force of running the convention.

Carol W and Betty are working at the National Angora Rabbit Breeder Club booth and Karen at the right is the booth chair.

After Carol W and Betty complete their booth shift, Matt and Casey join Karen at the booth to start their booth duty.

While Matt, Casey and Karen are at the booth, Pat checks in her items for Wool/Skein/Garment contest.

This doll in Angora attire is competing in the "novelty" category.
