Franky in the Backyard

My turn for photo?  I am not ready!

Do I look better?  Hi, I am Franky, little brother to Chucky.

Chucky gets to play in the front yard but mama Betty says that I should stay in the backyard.

I am a little shy, the backyard is fine, I like it better anyway.

Chucky at the Front Yard

Remember me?  I am one of the Fluffy Brothers! I am Chucky, the big brother.

Mama Betty usually does not allow us to play in the front yard, but she lets me do that today. Did you see the "1910" number?  That's our street address, but more interestingly, this is also the year when American Rabbit Breeders Association started.   Of course I wasn't born then, neither was mama Betty, but we read about it in the ARBA history.

Our house has bricks in the front.

I kinda like the bricks, I ask mama Betty to take some pictures of me with the bricks column.

I also like the plants in the front.

From left to right are Carol, Lena and Muriel.   Muriel travels from Portland Ore. to work at the Alameda Fair every year.   Lena joins the fair crew this year.  Carol is good friends with both, got to take a day off work to go visit.

Carol takes her spinning wheel to the fair.

Introduce the art of spinning to the youth.

Doing a grooming demo with her American Fuzzy Lop.

Alameda Fair Small Animal Exhibit

The small animal building at the Alameda Fair is nice and cool.

Rabbits are one of the major exhibits in the small animal building.

People are fascinated by so many different looking rabbits.

On the wall are the photos and descriptions of the ARBA recognized breeds of rabbits.

Different breeds are on exhibition.

They take pictures.

The admire the beauties and cuteness of rabbits.

These two American Fuzzy Lop are loaned to the exhibit by Carol.

Carol is doing a rabbit demo.

The only Angora in the building is a chestnut French Angora named Nicholas, loaned to the exhibit by Carol.   Nicholas is very popular, lots of fair goers take photos of him.   With so much fiber on his body that one fair goer thought he was a Llama!

Pigeons are also on exhibit.

Cavies?

And a snake demo!

BEW and VM Holland Lop

Bunny in the pocket, how cute can it be?  What is the breed?

It's a BEW (blue eye white) Holland Lop!   The most common color in Holland Lop that we see on the show table is tort, we don't even see agouti pattern Holland Lop often, and BEW is almost never seen in shows.   This is Debbie's pet Holland Lop, she does not show it.  Isn't it cute?

Are these lop-eared Dutch rabbits?  No, these are VM Holland Lops.
BEW requires two Vienna gene.  In the process of breeding for BEW, there are bunnies with one copy of Vienna gene and these bunnies have Dutch-like appearance.  The name for this marking is called VM for Vienna Marking.

Fuzzy Kimekomi Bunny

Princess Imari is one of Carolyn's favorite, she has been with Carolyn since she was a little baby.

Carolyn has been taking Kimekomi Doll classes for quite a few years, normally the material is the Japanese silky fabrics.   Being in the Year of Rabbit, there are more rabbit doll projects to choose from.

One of the projects uses a fuzzy material that is not common in Kimekomi dolls.  Carolyn takes the chance to try the new material and new skill that is required to make this rabbit doll.

Carolyn says that Princess Imari is the inspiration of this Kimekomi doll.
