Betty's Great Day at Monterey

I love rabbit shows like kids love Christmas.   Having the chance to go to the Monterey show after not having shows for more than 4 months, it's just a hoppy happy day.   I was just expecting seeing friends and hanging out with rabbits and rabbit people, it's such a wonderful surprise to ....

... have Graceann received Best In Show from Dr. Chris Hayhow in show A, then ...

... another Best In Show from ARBA VP Rusty Westoff in show B.

What a wonderful day!!!    When will be the next show day? Another four months?   Hope not.    CRCS has a show date scheduled at the end of August.    Hope the virus situation will be going down and we can have some normalcy in our lives.   This will be the last post on the CRCS Monterey Show.   Until the next time we have show again.

Show A Best In Show Judging at Monterey

Show A Best In Show is judged by Dr. Chris Hayhow from OH.   There are 20 plus BOB rabbits on the table competing for the top two spots.

It's always fun to watch the judging of a running breed, on the table running is an English Spot.

Judge Chris is posing a black rabbit but it's hard to tell what breed it is.

The Rhinelander is another running breed that is fun to watch.   This Rhinelander is later picked as the Reserve In Show.

On the table is the French Angora.

Show B English Angora Judging at Monterey

Judge Allen starts the English Angora judging with the white senior buck class.   There is a Dwarf Hotot on the table sniffing out the English Angora.

White senior doe.

More checking on the white senior doe.   Judge Kate is the table writer while judge Kendall is sitting on the rail watching.

Placing the colored junior buck class.

Next colored junior buck.

The remaining two colored junior bucks going for the first place.

Judge Allen decides on the second place.

And the one left is the first place later goes on to win the BOSB.   The two junior does are still in the coop waiting to be placed.

The Best of Breed goes to the white senior doe, she goes on to win the Best In Show.

Show B French Angora Judging at Monterey

After listening to the informative RHDV2 talk during lunch break, show B starts.   Allen Mesick is our show B judge and judge Kate helps with writing.

All the French Angora on the table are colored.   This is the colored senior buck.

Here is a colored junior buck.

Another colored junior buck.  Judge Allen checks on the texture.

Judge Allen checks the nails of one of the colored junior does.   Another one can't wait to join the judging.

Now it's the turn of that bigger colored junior doe.

Judge Allen compares the winners of the colored senior doe and the colored junior doe for the BOV.

Checking the colored senior doe with the junior doe waiting.

Senior doe waiting, checking the junior doe again.

Side by side comparison.  Carolyn and her grandson Kyle watch intensively.

Judge Allen picks the senior doe as BOV and BOB.     If you wonders why it takes judge Allen so many times goes back and forth on these two does, well, actually they are littermates.   The senior doe is Simone who is still a junior by age but her weight is in the senior range, thus she has been "bumped up".    In some breeds, the juniors are allowed to compete in the senior classes but not the other way around.  When a junior is shown in the senior class, it's called a "bump up".     In show A, junior doe Monique won over her sister to get BOB but in show B, Simone gets the BOB.

RHDV2 Information Presentation at Monterey

During the lunch break at the CRCS show in Monterey, Dr. Chris Hayhow gives a talk about the RHD2 virus.  Dr. Hayhow has a PhD in Virology and he also holds a DVM.   Rusty Westoff facilitates the questions.
FYI: Dr. Hayhow is a candidate for the ARBA president in the upcoming election and Rusty is the current ARBA vice president and he is also a candidate for the second term.

Allen live streams Dr. Hayhow's presentation on the facebook:
https://www.facebook.com/RabbitandCavyShows/videos/598155521077490

The most important recommendation is to practice bio security, keep all equipment and barn clean and separate those rabbits going to shows and staying at home.    Imported vaccine is an option, the effective rate is 6-18 months; the vaccine is yet to be accepted by the US government but currently some states can import it due to the outbreak.     There is no cure if a rabbit gets the virus, the kill rate is 50-90 %.

The show is totally stopped so that we could attend the talk.

Monterey temperature is in the 60s, it's very comfortable to sitting outside under the sun.

Here is another group of people listening to the talk.
