New Life in the Crazy World

Mom says that the world is getting crazy but we are happy that we are here.   Mom says there used to be something called rabbit shows but all are cancelled.   We told mom don't worry, we'll keep mom company and we'll wait for the rabbit shows to come back.

We thank Debbie for sharing these two cuties.

Judges at Grass Valley

Judge Misty Polisak is instrumental in the revival of  the Motherlode RBA and in charge of the annual shows.

Jordan Miner is a young and coming new judge.

Allan Ormond is a well-known judge who travels all over the country.   Just a week prior to the Motherlode RBA shows, judge Allan was in Georgia judging a two-day show weekend.    He was scheduled to judge the North Carolina state convention the following weekend but unfortunately the shows have been cancelled due to the Covid-19 virus.

Doug King is King of Mini Rex, winning ARBA convention Best In Show in 2009 and Group in 2019.  He is also well traveled in and out of the country.

Lindsey Vaught is a remarkable young lady who has cumulated quite a list of accomplishments.  Being a young and coming judge is one item on that list.

Randy Shumaker is the big boss of the California/Nevada show circuit, putting on the majority of shows.  At Grass Valley he enjoys a lighter day being one of the judges instead of having to run the entire show.

Alan Rafferty is also fairly new in judging but already quite popular.   Tami comes to visit, while Kelly watches their interaction.

The above photos taken by Casey may be the last batch of show photos in the next few months.   Due to COVID-19 virus pandemic, many locations have "Shelter in Place" orders, including the entire state of California.   Shows in March and April in California and the rest of the nation are cancelled, including but not limited to Angora National and the WCC.   We will try to put on interesting posts as much as possible but it is likely that we may run out of photos and topics.   If you wish to share pictures and stories with us, it will be much welcomed and appreciated.

Happy Exhibitors at Grass Valley

Pattee and Curtis are fairly new but they are euthanistic in showing.   Pattee has join the Motherlode RBA to be a volunteer worker.  They are happy at the show.   Pattee is showing one English Angora, plus a few Fuzzy Lop and Lionhead.

Jenny is a regular at shows, bad weather and virus do not scare her.

Gary and Phyllis have been in shows for over 30 years, their main breed are Champagne and Crème d'Argent but they always have a couple of English Angora as a side breed in shows.

Casey's Angoras Win All Breed Best In Show and Reserve In Show at Grass Valley

It's an unbelievable day for Casey.   In show A at the Motherlode RBA shows, her Satin Angora white senior doe Eva receives the Best In Show award from judge Randy Shumaker.    It's the first time ever a Satin Angora wins a Best In Show in the Northern California/Nevada show circuit.  Judge Randy commented that Eva is the best Satin Angora he has ever seen; with judge Randy's traveling all over the country and all over the world judging, this is a huge honor for Casey to have received this comment.

Adding to the excitement of her Satin Angora Eva winning the Best In Show, judge Randy awards the Reserve In Show to Casey's English Angora Winona.   It's not an Angora specialty show, this is show A at the Motherlode RBA all breed open show!    Casey sets a record for herself, in 29 years of breeding and showing, this is the first time her rabbits won both the Best In Show and Reserve In Show in the same show.

Showroom Scenese from Grass Valley

Motherlode RBA hold double all breed shows at Grass Valley on Saturday, March 14, 2020.

Motherlode RBA always puts on a great show.   It's a happy place on earth.   This year, the brave souls congregate at Grass Valley for the annual show.

Why "brave souls"?  2020 goes down in the history as the year where the COVID-19 virus strike the world.  Schools are closed, all sport events are cancelled, hospitals are full, people are asked to work from home, stock market dropped so much that it set a record and the President declared a national emergency.    On top of all these, the weather turned cold and rain and even some snow after more than a month of sunny warm temperature.

These are hardcore show enthusiasts who have gone through all the bumps to make it to Grass Valley to enjoy the company of fellow rabbit people and some serious rabbit competition.

We thank Casey for providing these photos and reports.   Here are some of Casey's beautiful English Angora and Satin Angora in the showroom.
