Pretty Pink Hats

Convention Memories: 1992 ARBA Convention Angora Numbers

At the 1992 convention, all four breeds of Angoras were represented.  The Result Book gave the numbers of entries and the numbers shown but not class rankings.    In English Angora there were 260 entered and 213 shown, a far better number than most of the numbers in recent conventions.   French Angora numbers were 133 entered and 112 shown, also better than in the recent years, Giant Angora 14 entered 12 shown, comparable to recent years, and for Satin Angora 51 entered 38 shown that is slightly better than the numbers in the recent conventions.

Breed judge was Dr. Terry Reed.  Dr. Reed was the ARBA president for 3 terms from 1983 to 1989.

The Best White was a junior doe shown by Glen and Janet Jackson.

In case you find Dr. Terry Reed's image familar, he created the Doc's Enhancer for Heinold Feed.   His image is still on some of the Heinold products.   He passed away in 1994.

Convention Memories: 1992 ARBA Convention Best In Show

The 2020 ARBA convention has been cancelled due to COVID-19 and RHD-2.  It's sad but it's important to keep all the human and rabbits safe.    We are here to share some of the past convention memories.

The 1992 ARBA convention was held in Columbus, OH.   It's the most memorable one for me and for the all the wool breeds.  This is the first time ever an Angora won a Best In Show.   This is a page from the Result Book: Convention Best In Show judge was Glen Carr and breed judge was Dr. Terry Reed.  There were a total of 12,275 rabbits shown in the convention.   At the time, there were only two finalists: 4-class and 6-class.   "4-class" includes the lightweight rabbits and "6-class" includes the heavyweight rabbits.

Here is a photo of me In the Domestic Rabbits with my Best In Show winner rabbit: Chu's Sweet Sixteen.

Can you imagine Sweet Sixteen was barely 8 months old.

Sweet Sixteen and me with the trophies for the 4-class and the Best In Show.

The trophies are not officially awarded until the ARBA banquet by the ARBA president.  In this photo, then ARBA president Cindy Wickizer awards me the trophies.  In my hand is actually the 4-class trophy, the Best In Show trophy is still on the table at the right.

Here is me with the Best In Show trophy.   It's too bad that Sweet Sixteen was not in the photo as the banquet was for human only.

Making of a Tort Angora Vest

Carolyn shows off the tort Angora vest she completed recently.   What's involved in making an Angora vest?

The tort English Angora wool is being groomed.   Look at the different shades of the earth tone color from orangey beige to grayish beige on the same rabbit.

When the time is right, the tort English Angora gets a hair cut and the big pile of wool is ready to be spun.

The wool is spun into two ply 100% yarn.   It has different shades within the yarn just like the wool on the rabbit.

Find a good pattern, get some nice needles, sit down and knit.  Carolyn did a great job in making this beautiful tort Angora vest.

Pattee Starts in French Angora

At Carol's Mini Get-together a week ago, Pattee picks up a pair of French Angora from Betty.   Pattee names the beauty Margot.

This is Margot at a younger age.

The boy is not as well behaved as Margot, Pattee gives a stern face.

Pattee names the boy Russell who will eventually become Margot's mate, both of them have a lot of growing up to do, and hopefully get a chance to go on the show table when things are better.

Rabbit Bandana

This is a very cute rabbit bandana from Japan.  At the lower right corner it has the name of the artist who made it.

There are many different images of rabbits, this is one of the closeups.

Another closeup that is very cute.

This one is very cute too.

Socially Distant Fun Time

After a 3-month shelter-in-place, we are so grateful to be all healthy and have the chance to spend some time together.   All good things have to come to an end.  Carolyn takes a picture of Casey, Pattee, Betty each holding a white baby doe and Carol holding her new French Angora girl; then we are ready to say goodbye.   Hopefully we'll be able to see each other soon in shows.   We are grateful that Carol hosted this mini gathering in her beautiful backyard, it's special.

Carol's American Fuzzy Lop Baby

Who can resist such a face?

Carol's main breed is American Fuzzy Lop; this is her newest baby.

Cuteness overload.

Babies are cute, the lop eared babies are even cuter.

Pattee also have American Fuzzy Lop, she is so enchanted by this baby.

Comparing to the grooming table, the baby is tiny.

A close up, cute, cute, cute.
