Best In Show Judging at Turlock on Sunday

Show C Best In Show judge is Ryan Harrah from AZ.

Another view of judge Ryan examining the BOBs on the table.

Betty, Amber and Julie have a picture taken with Ryan in the background.  Why?    In 2013 at the Harrisburg ARBA convention, Betty's English Angora, Amber's Jersey Wooly and Julie's Havana were Group winners along with Doug Harrah's Florida White.   Doug's Florida White went on to win the convention Best In Show.   Ryan is Doug's son, thus three of us have a little connection with Ryan!
The California State Convention has quite a few big winners in attendance.    In addition to the convention group winners, there are 6 convention Best In Show winners attending the show:
Kassi Sieber, Mini Lop 1989
Betty Chu, English Angora 1992
Joe Kim, Tan 2003
Doug King, Mini Rex 2009
Chris Zemny, Holland Lop 2014
Jeanette Rasmussen, Netherland Dwarf, 2017

Judge Ryan awards the show C Best In Show to Joe's Tan and Reserve In Show to Betty's English Angora.

Show D Best In Show judge is Jeremy Watmuff of Michigan.

Best In Show Judging at Turlock on Saturday

The California State Convention on Saturday has an unusual Best In Show judging routine.   The BOB rabbits are grouped into 5 groups, 5 judges pick a winner in each group and each winner is given a big rosette.   Then a 6th judge comes in to pick the best of the 5 group winners.  This is what judge Josh is doing in the photo, picking the best of the 5 rabbits.

Joe's Tan gets the nod from judge Josh for the Best In Show.
The remaining 4 group winners compete with the 2nd place in the group that produced the Best In Show for the honor of the Reserve In Show.

The second place of the "marked group" is the English Spot shown by Maddie and Louis and this English Spot gets the Reserve In Show honor from judge Josh.   The other four group winners are:
Commercial group: Julie's Havana
Fur group: Julie's Mini Rex
Lops and others group: Jeremy's Netherland Dwarf
Rare breed group: Kelly's Lilac

The same method repeats in show B, judge Scott has the honor of being the Best In Show judge to pick from the 5 group winners.
