Cyndie's Visit

Betty got a pleasant surprise today. She received a call in the morning from Cyndie who lives in Montague, far north of CA. Cyndie said she's visiting her parents in Aptos and could stop by to visit.

Cyndie and her son David came over in the early afternoon. She toured Betty's barn under reconstruction and took a picture in front of it. She also picked up a few pounds of wool from Betty for her own spinning and for resale. Here she is with David, she is pointing to the "fleece roll" that she got from Betty.

People at Monterey

Those who go to Monterey Fair regularly will find the faces here very familiar.

The top photo is Karla with Betty. Karla has been in charge of the rabbit division at the Monterey Fair for as long as anyone can remember. She does not seem to show rabbits herself but she's always working with 4-H kids and fairs, both for youth and for open exhibitors. She is efficient, kind and courteous. Can't ask for a better person to work with.

The second picture is John and Sherrie. They were active in the Salinas Valley club until it ended, and then worked very hard with the Monterey Fair. The fairs have rules that anyone who either works or volunteers cannot show his own animals. John and Sherrie decided recently that they would like to show, so they have to stop being the official volunteers. However, they are always there to help anyone who needs it. They have very nice Flemish Giants that do very well in shows.

Animal Statues at the Monterey Fairgrounds

Monterey Fairgrounds have some of the most interesting statues.

The top picture shows a cow-like animal with a baby goat. The sign says "Surrogate Mother".

The second photo shows a mama pig on her side nursing her piglets. All the faces show happiness and content.

The third one gave us a shock last year when the statue was placed in a different direction. The back end was anatomically correct and facing the opposite direction. Now we can see the side view but not from the back.

These statues seem to be either made of cement or very heavy wood. It is not possible to move any of them.

Betty On YouTube

Our readers probably are "secret" out by this time. Well, some more news about it this morning. Betty just learned that Gary, pictured here with Betty, has uploaded Betty's segment on YouTube site. You can view it from Gary's blog

http://garygreen.blogspot.com/2006/08/when-betty-chu-and-her-amazing-angora.html

or go to YouTube directly:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OyvAlxX-Wc&eurl=

You probably need a fast connection such as DSL or broad band to see the video, a dial up probably won't work too well.

For those who do not have cable, this is a good chance to see the segment. Thank you, Gary.

Hard Workers at the Monterey Show

We are so lucky in the No. CA area. We have lots of wonderful shows that are within 3 - 4 hours of driving distance. It will not be possible if there were not these very unselfish volunteers who work hard in the shows. Here are some of these hard workers, also top breeders, in the CRCS shows on Saturday.

Top photo shows Carol G. who is the #1 American Fuzzy Lop breeder in the nation. She is the treasurer of the CRCS, needless to say, she is holding the club check book ready to pay the show expenses.

The second photo is our able secretary Dolores. She is efficient and friendly. Dolores and hubby Mike have some of the best Rex around. They are also responsible for the wonderful Big Valley RA shows at Stockton.

The third photo is the show superintendent John. John is a top Satin breeder since he was a youth in the 80s. He went out of rabbits in the mid to late 90s but came back as an open breeder in 2001. He took Best In Show in 2001 immediately, as if he was announcing that he's back. He has done well in Satin since.

The fourth photo shows John and Randy discussing show matters. Randy is the general chairman of the show and the force behind CRCS. As we all know that Randy is the vice president of ARBA, a top breeder of Mini Rex and Mini Satin. His Mini Rex took Reserve In Show in the show B.

Amy's Busy Weekend

Amy, our New York member, had a fun but really busy weekend. Her relatives and friends came for the birthday party of her sons Brandon and Jonathan. Lots of cousins and lots of kids. Some stayed as house guests, Amy had a more than full house.

Birthday boy Jonathan who just turned 7 took the top picture of Amy with her white doe who has a three-month growth wool. The doe should be in perfect coat in the fall shows.

In the second picture, from left to right brothers Brandon and Jonathan are performing a magic trick with Amy's white bunny.

In the third picture, boys are happily opening gifts.

Amy is going to have an even busier life from now on. She is the new president of the National Angora Rabbit Breeders Club (NARBC). She takes office today. We wish her a smooth sailing and we know that she will do a great job.
