We have posted historical Angora SOP in the following three posts from 1934 to 1950. Today we'll take a look at the SOP from 1950 to 1955.

The SOP on English Angora started at the bottom of this page, ignore the paragraphs before "English Angoras" appear. The colors accepted are white, black, blue and fawn. "Whites to be disqualified if marketed with an other color." appears in this SOP. Because of this sentence, for many years the broken variety was not only disqualified but also could not be presented for consideration.

English Angora are to be compact, such concept has been included very early in the SOP. Weight wise, senior buck range was 5-1/2 to 7-1/2 pounds, senior does 5-1/2 to 8 pounds. Both the lower and upper limit are 1/2 pound higher than that of the current standard. The most interesting part is that the wool is assigned 65 points, more than the 57 points in the current standard.

French Angora standard starts midway of this page. The first sentence is that the French Angora are to be eliminated if they resemble the English. Just a reminder, the Angora used to be called "Angora Woolers", no distinction between English and French. (see 1934-1939 SOP link above). Starting in 1939, the SOP used "Angora Woolers (English Type)" and "Angora Woolers (French Type)" as a distinction. (see 1939-1944 SOP link above).

French Angora standard ends at 1/3 of the top page. The minimum senior weight was 7 pounds without a maximum weight. |
