Kagami Mochi for New Year

Kagami Mochi is a tradition Japanese New Year decoration.  It usually has two round mochi with the smaller placed on top of the larger one then put a Japanese bitter orange on top of it.   Mochi is a Japanese dessert made from sweet rice flour.

Carolyn makes a Kimekoni Kagami Mochi as a New Year decoration for her home.   Kimekoni is a method of making Japanese dolls, Carolyn takes advanced Kimekoni classes, she applies her skill in making this New Year decoration.   Kimekoni uses beautiful fibric, this Kagami Mochi is for decoration only.

Being a rabbit lover, a Kimekomi rabbit doll is placed next to the Kagami Mochi for the decoration.  The golden character on the fan is a part of language characters used in both Chinese and Japanese, it means double happiness.
