Showroom Scenes at San Jose

Santa Clara County Rabbit and Cavy Shows big two-day weekend has arrived.  At the huge Expo Hall at the fairgrounds in San Jose, there are over 2700 entries with 5 open and 5 youth all breed shows and 7 specialty shows.

Here are the two major personnel at the Santa Clara County Fair: CEO Salene Duarte on the right and livestock specialist Madeline Beckwith on the left.

There are plenty of space for all to spread out.

There are lots of rabbits but the venue is so big that the showroom still looks sparse.

Kelly Hinde is take care of her entries.

There are 8 judges working on the triple open and triple youth shows on Saturday, October 18, 2025.

The wool corner is actually a space that is about half of the size of most showrooms in other venues.
In this photo there are English Angora, French Angora and American Fuzzy Lop.

At the other wall are the Satin Angoras.

On the display are some of the creations from the Angora wool.

Salene is watching the English Angoras being evaluated by judge Kathi Groves.

Even Salene is the big boss of the fair, she attends all the rabbits shows at the fairgrounds, she also brings her hubby David and daughter with her.  David Duarte is an ag teacher who is very well-known well-respected in California, he raised rabbits when he was 9 years old.  He is instrumental in suggesting having rabbit shows back to the fairgrounds after a close to 20-year absence.  Pictured next to Davis are two of his ag students.

With 8 judges and 1800 entries on Saturday, the showroom still looks half empty.  As a matter of fact, it is half empty.   How big is the showroom?  45,000 square feet, more than an acre that is 43,560 square feet.   To get an idea, the Merced Yosemite Hall is 18,000 square feet and most other showrooms are about 10,000 square feet give and take.   For those who have yet to experience this spacious venue, come on down!  Our next show here is on the weekend of March 14-15, 2026.
