Loving the Persimmons

Our Fuyu persimmon tree has a great crop this year.   The Fuyu looks a bit like some variety of tomato, the uninformed would comment: "You have a tomato tree!"

The quality of this year's crop is top notch, good sized and sweet.

Fuyu persimmons do not need to wait for it to get mushy before eating, it's sweet and crunchy right off the tree.  The birds sure understand this, look at the half pecked fruit.

Squirrels like to pick the fruit, eat and run, they seldom finish the entire fruit as there are more on the tree.   Wasteful.

These are Hachiya persimmons that are acron-shaped.    It can be quite astringent, needs to wait for it to be total or even over ripe.   This is also the variety for baking.

Due to the astringent nature, birds and squirrels are not as destructive to the Hachiya persimmons.  If their little tongues have the similar taste buds as human, they would feel the tingling should they decide to eat the not yet ripe Hachiya persimmons.
