Found On The Net: German Angora At Concentration Camps

Donna in Indiana has found some interesting photos and facts about German Angora. There is a large collection of photos of Angora being kept in the concentration camps in Germany the 1940s. To see this collection, go to Wisconsin History Society website:

  1. A while ago I found these pictures also and thought of putting them on my website. Being german and having to carry a stigma for generations to come I guess, I have decided not to. I just hope that in all this place of dread, horror and unspeakable terror those beautiful animals brought a glimmer of hope and maybe joy, even if only a little smile to the people who suffered if they had any contact with the Angoras. I so hope they did.

  2. The problem with this post is that it is taken out of historical context and appears to imply that German angoras = Nazis. Historically, the angora in Germany was already in development programs by 1920 - a full 20 years before WWII. The Third Reich recognized the insullation value of angora and confiscated both the rabbits and the wool as war materials. Those facts were neglected.

  3. There is NO intention of implying anything. It is not an indication of the development of German Angora, all it says is that there is a great photo collection stored at the Wisconsin Historical Society; this post points to that website. Anyone who is interested in knowing more about this photo collection could click the given link of Wisconsin Historical Society website to learn more about these old photos.
